HIGHLIGHTS

Highlights of the medical microbiology program at the University of Manitoba include:

  1. A close working relationship with both the pediatric and adult infectious diseases training programs at the University of Manitoba, including shared clinical rounds, journal club, and half-day. This ensures excellent training in clinical infectious diseases.

  2. Formal courses in clinical bacteriology, clinical virology, and parasitology that are provided as part of the academic half-day. A variety of other teaching sessions are offered outside of academic half-day (e.g., plate rounds, clinical rounds, tropical medicine rounds, medical microbiology specific teaching sessions). Additionally, trainees are funded to attend an epidemiology course off-site.

  3. A mandatory rotation through the National Microbiology Laboratory, which is located in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
