HIGHLIGHTS
  • Postgraduate Medical Education at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, at Western University offers programs in London, Windsor, and in over 60 distributed education network sites across Southwestern Ontario.

  • Our program offers training from inner city to very rural areas.

  • London, our Forest City, has a population of close to 400,000 people. It offers everything a large city can, and yet it’s small enough to be both affordable and have no commute.

  • The same is true for Windsor, a city of about 250,000 people. Both are major cities, vibrant and growing.

  • London is our major teaching centre. It has three major hospitals: University Hospital, Victoria Hospital, which are combined as London Health Sciences Centre, as well as St. Joseph’s Hospital.

  • Southwestern Ontario is a centre for healthcare, but we also have a large focus on research, both clinical and basic science research.

  • Southwestern Ontario provides an opportunity for a really great lifestyle. We have our big city amenities and all of the outdoor experiences you would ever want.

    GENERAL INFORMATION

The Department of Family Medicine at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University, is an academic leader of family medicine in Canada. A centre of scholarly excellence, we are committed to training comprehensive family physicians and future leaders in health care. We do this through a highly adaptable program that includes tailor-made curriculum and educational programs for residents.

We believe residency is a rite of passage that is much more than just a means to getting a medical license. We trust our residents to be the best judge when it comes to recognizing the kind of experience that will assist them in becoming the physicians and people they aspire to be.

We are dedicated to training and mentoring our residents to ensure they acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to be confident and competent family physicians.

Our program is built around three core values:

    Flexibility, Support, and Dedication

We believe that flexibility is very important in a program so that residents can tailor their learning experience with electives for the career they wish to have in the future.
